Transfer News: Newcastle United in talks with Chelsea for Callum Hudson-Odoi
According to journalist Rob Pratley on Twitter via TeamTalk (h/t Mirror), Newcastle United have formally started talks with Chelsea for Callum Hudson-Odoi.
The Magpies were interested in Timo Werner also, but new reports tell that the German striker is close to a return back to his homeland. With the Magpies likely to miss out on him, they have set their eyes on another Blues star.
Hudson-Odoi was promoted to the senior team in 2019. The 21-year-old since then has struggled to establish himself in the team. A youth graduate, it looks like his time at Stamford Bridge could come to an end this summer.
Game time has never come easy to the player, and this was evident last season. He made a total of 15 league appearances managing to score only one goal and get three assists. The ;ack of game time shows that Thomas Tuchel does not trust the player as much as he should.
His performances on the pitch have been decent but given his potential, it could have been better. With the arrival of Raheem Sterling this summer, the 21-year-old Englishman will be likely pushed further down the pecking order.
The Sun reported last month that Newcastle were interested in Hudson-Odoi with Chelsea said to be open to listening to offers for the winger. It remains unclear what fees will be demanded by the Blues, but they want to include a buyback clause.
It would be a wise move to include such a clause for a talented winger like him. Maybe he can find his form at St. James Park and could return back to Chelsea as a first-team player. A very young player with so much potential, it would be wise for the Blues to have a way to bring him back in the future.

It will be beneficial for Hudson-Odoi to play elsewhere and garner more playtime at the senior level. Whether or not the talks between the clubs come to any fruition remains to be seen.
