Transfer News: Newcastle United are interested in Chelsea stars Callum Hudson-Odoi and Conor Gallagher
According to The Athletic (h/t Metro), Newcastle United are interested in the Chelsea duo of Conor Gallagher and Callum Hudson-Odoi.
The report states that the Magpies have asked to be made aware if any of the players mentioned above are available for loan. Eddie Howe’s side have made only three signings this summer, but they seem to be looking to bring in more.
Hudson-Odoi is keen to leave on loan this summer and has interest from a number of clubs in England and Europe. As for Gallagher, it is very likely that he will be part of Thomas Tuchel’s squad for this season.
Gallagher spent the last season on loan at Crystal Palace. The 22-year-old was very impressive during his spell at Selhurst Park. The Englishman scored eight times in 34 league appearances for the Eagles. His impressive performance got him a call-up to the national side.
The England international also won the player of the year award at Palace last season. His impressive performance will likely give him a place in Tuchel’s squad as N’Golo Kante enters the final year of his current contract. A similar player like the Frenchman, Gallagher could be his natural replacement.
Hudson-Odoi struggled for playing time last season. The Englishman could only manage to make 15 league appearances, scoring one goal in that run. He was clearly not part of Tuchel’s plan last season and is very unlikely to be one this season.
Tuchel appeared to give a hint on the duo during the Blues’ last game against Everton. While Gallagher came off the bench to get some minutes, Hudson-Odoi was left out of the matchday squad by the German coach. It will be wise for Hudson- Odoi to go out on loan and get some more playing time.
Gallagher and Hudson-Odoi are both talented individuals who need regular playtime. They risk stagnating at Chelsea unless regular first-team football is on the table. A move to Newcastle to work under Eddie Howe could do them wonders.
