Transfer News: Michy Batshuayi is open to leaving Chelsea for Everton
Chelsea outcast Michy Batshuayi is open to leaving Stamford Bridge and joining Everton this summer. This is according to talkSPORT (h/t Express), who say that the 28-year-old is open to reuniting with former boss Frank Lampard at Goodison Park.
Lampard is said to view Batshuayi as Richarlison’s replacement whom the Toffees sold to Tottenham Hotspur, earlier this summer. Given that the Belgian is in the final year of his contract, it is now or never for Chelsea to cash in.
Batshuayi last played for the Blues in February 2020. It is far from an ideal situation for a player who does not appear to be in Thomas Tuchel’s plans.
The Belgium international spent last season on loan at Turkish side Besiktas JK. He enjoyed a fairly good spell, scoring 14 goals for his side in 33 league appearances. Upon returning, he was included in the Chelsea pre-season squad by Tuchel.
Batshuayi did play during our pre-season tour of the United States but he was far from impressive. With Tuchel now having added Raheem Sterling to his attack, Batshuayi will have fallen further down the pecking order. A move away will benefit both the player and club.
Everton barely managed to survive relegation last season and Lampard is hoping to avoid a similar dogfight next season. The Belgian has played under the Chelsea legend during the 2019/20 season and a reunion might rekindle both of their careers.
With Batshuayi having entered the final year of his current contract, Chelsea will be wise to allow the player to leave. This way they can get some money for the player compared to losing him for free next summer. Also, his potential departure will free up some place in the wage bill which could then be used to attract better replacements.

A player forgotten by many of the Chelsea fans, he is very less likely to be missed. His departure could also free up space for any potential arrival. It remains to be seen if Tuchel will choose to promote Broja to a starring role or bring in someone new.
