Transfer News: Manchester United are interested in Chelsea star Hakim Ziyech
Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag is interested in signing Hakim Ziyech from Chelsea. But the former Ajax coach is facing resistance from the United hierarchy amid his interest, according to Manchester Evening News.
Ten Hag and Ziyech were together at Ajax where they famously reached the semi-finals of the Champions League. The 29-year-old attacking midfielder is said to be an alternative for Antony, who is another interest for the Manchester club.
But the United board have their resistant to allowing Ten Hag to bring in Ziyech. The Moroccan’s current contract runs till 2025 having joined the west London side in 2020.
Ziyech has failed to replicate his Ajax form ever since moving to Chelsea. This has led to the player being pushed down the pecking order by Thomas Tuchel. An attacking-midfielder, he is usually deployed on the right-wing side.
The arrival of Raheem Sterling has not helped Ziyech as he is pushed further down. AC Milan were interested in signing the 29-year-old on loan, but that move seems to have hit a stalemate. He is not a trusted party by Thomas Tuchel and that is very unlikely to change this season.
He managed to make 23 league appearances last season, starting in only 14 of them. The form in front of goal was no good either as he could only find the back of the net four times last season. Ziyech remained an unused sub during the Everton game last weekend.
But he is not the only player that was of interest to Ten Hag. It is said that the Manchester club made an 11th-hour attempt to sign Timo Werner. Werner joined his former club RB Leipzig this summer, snubbing United in the process. Now, they are again interested in another Chelsea player.

Ziyech may not be performing that well, but he helps to add depth to the squad. If Tuchel wants him to leave, it will be wise to send him to some other European club, rather than help strengthen a rival. An unused sub in the last game, it remains to be seen if he gets to play in the next game this Sunday.
