A View From The Bridge

American star who wants to leave Chelsea set to stay put

Transfer News: Christian Pulisic is set to stay at Chelsea this summer

According to the Athletic, American star Christian Pulisic is set to stay at Chelsea this summer despite wanting to leave the club in search of regular game time after falling out of favour with Thomas Tuchel.

‘Captain America’ as he is popularly known, Christian Pulisic is one of the most highly rated young talents in the world. Having set the stage alight during his time in Borussia Dortmund, the American was signed to much fanfare and was expected to make a telling difference.

However, injuries have not allowed Pulisic to become the player that he was expected to become when he first came to North London. Once touted as the long-time replacement of Eden Hazard, it is safe to say that the American has not met the hype.

Pulisic still shows his talent whilst playing for the USMNT, but his performances for the Blues have been lacking a lot. Although he shows glimpses of potential on the odd occasion, the American is a far better player than he has shown and maybe he needs a change of scenario.

Both Manchester United and Newcastle United have been touted as possible loan destinations for the talented winger throughout this summer, but it seems like a transfer will not materialise in the next few days and Pulisic will be forced to stay at Chelsea against his own wish.

The 23-year-old has played 119 games for the Blues scoring 25 goals and providing 19 assists across all competitions. These numbers are rather underwhelming for a player who showed much more promise when he was in the Bundesliga.

If Pulisic indeed stays at the Bridge and manages to shine in Thomas Tuchel’s team, then the tides might turn and the American could end up having the long-term future initially envisioned for him but at first, he needs to get back into the German’s plans.

This could be Christian Pulisic’s make-or-break season. He looks close to staying at the club for at least until the next transfer window, and it remains to be seen how the American takes his chance. A huge season is on the cards. Let’s see of Christian Pulisic can turn Captain America, this time in a Blues shirt.
