In what seems a battle for a future star, London rivals Chelsea and Arsenal are set to lock horns for the signature of Cesare Casadei, according to The Sun. The 19-year-old Inter Milan Under-19 player is considered the jewel of the Nerazzurri’s youth side.
The Blues had bid £7 million for the player but saw that offer get rejected. The Serie A giants are hoping to get around £17 million for the midfielder. Arsenal are said to be considering an offer closer to their valuation.
Casadei is yet to make his debut for the senior team but has already attracted the attention of top Premier League clubs. The Blues have added quite a few players in their academy this summer and have identified another for the same.
A box-to-box midfielder, he could be the future of Chelsea’s midfield. The young Italian was on fire last season scoring 13 goals in 29 appearances for the Inter Milan Primavera. This led to him being crowned the young player of the year at Inter.
The midfield duo of N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are not getting any younger, despite being in top form. The duo has entered the final year of their respective contracts and their futures remain uncertain. It is very important for Thomas Tuchel to have replacements ready as they cannot be expected to start every game for the club, given their age.
Mateo Kovacic has his moments during the course of the season, but he isn’t immune from fitness issues and burnout The likes of Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour are considered the future of the club. Adding a player of Casadei’s quality will make the transition in midfield even smoother.
Chelsea have bought quite a few young players like Zak Sturge, Tyler Dibling and Carney Chukwuemeka this summer. The fact that these players have been bought from different clubs shows that the Blues are not only building a team for the present but also for the future.
Casadei is highly rated and rightly so. It will be wise for Chelsea to offer better terms than their previous one. A quality midfielder, he will only improve every season. The fans will hope that if the midfielder leaves Inter, it is for west London.
