Transfer News: Callum Hudson-Odoi free to leave Chelsea on loan this summer amidst interest from three clubs
According to The Evening Standard (h/t Independent), Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi is free to leave the club on loan this season. This comes after co-owner Todd Boehly personally pleaded with the winger to not force a permanent exit.
Three Premier League clubs Newcastle United, Leicester City and Southampton are all interested in taking the 21-year-old on loan. He also has an interest from Germany, with Borussia Dortmund interested in the English winger. The Blues are said to not entertain any option to buy.
He is yet to decide on his future club, but Hudson-Odoi is very less likely to be part of Thomas Tuchel’s squad come September 1. Hakim Ziyech could also leave, with the likes of Billy Gilmour and Ross Barkley following suit.
The 21-year-old rose through the Chelsea ranks and was promoted to the senior team in 2019. Since then, he has struggled for playing time and has failed to establish a place for himself in the team.
On his way out?
Hudson-Odoi was part of the pre-season squad but evidently failed to impress Tuchel. The player is yet to play for the Blues this season. He was not included in the squad for the 1-0 win against Everton and was on the bench for the 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur.
His previous season campaign also does not help his cause. The Englishman could only manage to make 15 league appearances, scoring one goal and assisting three in the process. The arrival of Raheem Sterling has pushed him further down the pecking order.
A loan move will benefit the player. He can go out and find form while Tuchel can monitor his development. If he can impress, he could be recalled or become part of Tuchel’s squad for future seasons. If not, the Blues could potentially look to part ways with the winger.
The player has a host of options to choose from. He will be wise to go to a club where he can get his desired playing minutes and develop into a truly world-class winger.

Hudson-Odoi has, for a number of years, looked like one of the brightest attacking prospects to come out of the academy. However, the likes of Tammy Abraham, Marc Guehi, Fikayo Tomori, and Mason Mount have made themselves a big part of their respective team’s starting XIs.
For Hudson-Odoi, that should be the next aim- to make himself into a player that a manager thinks twice before benching.
