Transfer News: Tottenham plotting a move to sign two Chelsea players
According to Football.London, London rivals Tottenham Hotspur could plot a move to sign two Chelsea players Hakim Ziyech and Trevoh Chalobah before the end of this summer transfer window.
The Ziyech link has been spurred on by the former Spurs forward Raphael van der Vaart, who talked about how good the former Moroccan international could be to Antonio Conte’s team.
Ziyech hasn’t been a regular starter at Chelsea since his arrival in the summer of 2020. Although very silky on the ball, he has had injury and consistency issues that have probably forced the hands of manager Thomas Tuchel to not rely on him for a key role in the starting lineup.
Speaking to the Times about the winger to Spurs, Van der Vaart believes Ziyech could make a difference should he move to N-17. He has backed the Moroccan to experience better results in white and redeem himself on the Premier League stage.
But I believe Ziyech is the type of player who could make a big impact in the current Spurs team. With a playmaker like him, chances are things will start to go much better.
The other player linked is Chalobah, who had a breakthrough season at Stamford Bridge last season and was one of our consistent performers. But, with Chelsea signing Kalidou Koulibaly and looking to add another central defender to their squad, it seems as if the 23-year-old won’t get much game time this season.
Ziyech has had talks with his former club Ajax Amsterdam regarding a return, while Chalobah has been linked with moves to other clubs throughout this summer window, including the Italian side AS Roma.
While both the players are on the edge of being surplus to requirements at Chelsea, joining Spurs would certainly make them stronger. Would the Blues want one of their close Premier League and London rivals to harp this advantage? Fans would say no in a heartbeat.

So, while it makes sense that the two fringe players need to be offloaded, it shouldn’t be done to direct rivals. Moreover, it is not a guarantee that they will get regular game time at Tottenham as well, owing to the fact that they also possess a very good squad this season.
