Thomas Tuchel in talks with Chelsea regarding a new contract
In what will come as good news to Chelsea fans, Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that talks have been held over a new contract for the German. His current contract is set to expire in 2024, as per the Mirror.
The former Paris Saint-Germain manager arrived at the London club in January 2021 as a replacement for Frank Lampard. He made an immediate impact at the club, by winning the Champions League and guiding his side to a top-four finish in the table.
He had initially signed an 18-month contract but was offered a new one after winning the coveted European trophy. And now under the new ownership, he is set to be rewarded again, as the west London club wants him at the helm beyond 2024.
Speaking in his press conference ahead of his side’s clash against Leeds United this Sunday, the 48-year-old confirmed that talks had taken place between his representatives and the club.
My people talk to the owners and take care of everything else. You know how glad I am to be here and how much I like it. So it’s a good thing.
Tuchel has enjoyed quite a positive time till now at the club. He has guided his side to back-to-back top-four finishes and even reached the finals of both the domestic cups last season. A very popular figure among the fans, his potential extended stay will be welcomed.
He has been very impressive during the last few months in handling the club. A sanction and change in ownership saw him lose his two main centre-backs for free. He has remained positive throughout and has even helped the new ownership with transfer business this summer.
The German was recently involved in a touchline spat with Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte. Both the managers have been slapped a fine for their unruly behaviour, while Tuchel faces a suspended one-match touchline ban. But this is part and parcel of the game, with fans applauding his passion for the club.
