A View From The Bridge

Newcastle United are keeping close tabs on inconsistent Chelsea winger

Newcastle United consider making a move for Chelsea star Christian Pulisic

According to a report in The Athletic (h/t Football.London), Newcastle United would consider a move to sign Chelsea and United States winger Christian Pulisic during this summer transfer window.

The Blues have already let go of the likes of Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku this window. With more players likely to leave, reinforcements are necessary.

Pulisic signed for the London-based club in the January window of 2019, for a fee of around £58m from Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund. He was then loaned back to Dortmund before arriving in the summer of 2019. While he has impressed at times, injuries and a lack of consistency have prevented him from reaching his potential.

The 23-year-old scored 25 goals and assisted 19 in 116 appearances in all competitions. Most of his outings have come off the bench in what has been an underwhelming spell at Stamford Bridge.

Having signed Raheem Sterling to bolster the wide attacking areas, it remains to be seen what the future holds for not just Pulisic but also Hakim Ziyech.

From the American’s viewpoint, he is still only 23 and the peak years of his career are yet to come. Moving to another club where he starts most games would not only help his development for the here and now, but also give him a fresh start with a clean slate.

Newcastle are a team on the rise and are slowly yet steadily keen to build a winning team. The Magpies are still a few seasons away from challenging and landing Pulisic will give them a long-term option in attack who can act as a lynchpin upfront.

More Chelsea News:

More so, with the options Newcastle have in wide attacking areas, Pulisic is an upgrade with world-class potential. Should he realise his potential at St James Park, Eddie Howe and co will have a real gamechanger on their hands.
