Frenkie de Jong is not interested in leaving Barcelona amid Chelsea interest
The saga involving Frenkie de Jong seems to have taken another drastic turn. According to Sport (h/t The Sun), the Dutch midfielder has no interest in leaving Barcelona this summer.
This will come as a blow to Chelsea, who were looking to hijack the deal from Manchester United. United have been interested in the 25-year-old since the beginning of the window, but Chelsea looked to snatch him away from them and bring him to Stamford Bridge.
But now, the midfielder has no interest in leaving. This comes after Chelsea owner Todd Boehly had a telephone conversation with the player days ago. And the player is said to have expressed his desire to stay at Camp Nou and is not interested in any move.
The Spanish giants have been unable to register their new signings owing to excessive wage bills. De Jong’s sale would allow them to register their signings, despite both coach Xavi and club president Joan Laporta having expressed their desire to keep the player at the club.
But then again, there are different reports that suggest that the La Liga club has threatened legal action against de Jong if does not revert back to his pre-2020 deal. So, on one hand, they are threatening legal action against the player and on the other, they want to keep him.
And between this, Chelsea are stuck as they cannot figure out if they can land the player or not. Given the headache around the Dutchman’s transfer, it will be wise for Thomas Tuchel and co to focus on other targets. The 25-year-old is a world-class midfielder, but his current situation is something that one should keep a distance from.
Given that Tuchel has his plate full in the midfield department, adding de Jong would not be wise to it. N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are still at the top of their game. Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour are young options available, who have huge potential in them.

The saga involving de Jong is just proving to be a headache for Tuchel. It will be wise for him to let the player stay at his current club and see how the situation develops. If he is unhappy with his midfield, he can always make a move in the January transfer window.
