Chelsea to send new £50 million to PL rivals for young striker

Chelsea prepare £50 million for Everton star Anthony Gordon

According to The Times (h/t Metro), Chelsea are preparing a second bid worth £50 million for Everton youngster Anthony Gordon. The Toffees had rejected the Blues’ opening offer for the player.

Now, the Stamford Bridge side are set to match the asking price Everton had seemingly set on their academy prospect. Gordon has been attracting interest from various Premier League clubs, with Tottenham and Newcastle in the race for the 21-year-old.

Frank Lampard’s side have been reluctant about selling their breakout star of the 2021/22 season. But Chelsea are set to test the Evertonian’s resolve by putting in a new offer on the table.

Will Everton sell Gordon to Chelsea?

Gordon was one of the standout players for the Toffees in the previous campaign. Everton battled relegation and were without some of their main stars. The 21-year-old stepped up and delivered some crucial performances.

The young Scouser featured in 40 games for the Goodison side last season in all competitions. Gordon played out on the right and left-wing for Lampard and showed his versatility.

The new season has seen the 21-year-old take centre-stage at Everton. Gordon has started the first two games this campaign in the centre-forward position. He also featured against Chelsea and looked lively.

Thomas Tuchel needs a striker or two.

The Blues are seemingly looking for more attacking options this summer. The forward line has been trimmed. Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner left London. And Chelsea has managed just one attacking incoming in Raheem Sterling. The futures of some of our other attacking options are uncertain as well.

For the 2022/23 season, Gordon was handed the number 10 shirt at Everton. He’s become a fan favourite for the Goodison faithful. The Merseyside club have lost some key attacking options this summer.

It remains to be seen whether Everton accept Chelsea’s bid for Gordon. The 21-year-old is an excellent prospect for the future.
