A View From The Bridge

Talented rival PL starlet keen to move to Chelsea this summer

Everton youngster Anthony Gordon wants to leave the club for Chelsea

According to a report in Telegraph (h/t Metro), Everton youngster Anthony Gordon wants to leave the Merseyside club and join Chelsea in this summer transfer window. This development has come as a huge transfer boost to Thomas Tuchel.

Everton have already rejected one bid from Chelsea for Gordon, which was worth around £45m. But it was also reported that the London-based club will make another bid for the youngster, seemingly around £50m.

What Gordon’s willingness should do is make strengthen Chelsea’s hand in negotiations. The Blues are set to offer bonuses and incentives to further attract the player to Stamford Bridge.

Anthony Gordon wants to leave Everton for Chelsea

The Liverpool-born forward, who has been at Everton since his youth years, made a mark for himself last season in the Premier League. He was one of the key reasons why the Toffees were successful in beating the drop and retaining their Premier League status/

Gordon made 35 league appearances last season, scoring four goals and assisting two in a campaign where Everton lacked inspiration and quality in the final third. Those numbers do not do justice to how impactful the 21-year-old was in that team, especially during the second half of the season.

With regards to where he can play, Gordon is a flexible forward player, who can operate on either wing or as a number 10. He has played as a wide midfielder in a 4-4-2 formation and possesses the attribute to track back and help the defence out.

So, if he joins Chelsea, as much as Tuchel can use him in one of the forward positions, the player could be an option in the wing-back position. This versatility is welcome given the lack of depth we have in the squad.

Spending that much money on a player who has had one decent season can sound crazy, but that is how the transfer market goes these days. The advantage of signing a young player is that he can give a lot of good years to the team and develop into something special with the right guidance.
