Report: Chelsea reach out to 19-year-old Man United target’s representative

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly met with the representative of RB Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko

According to Sport Klub (h/t Express), Chelsea owner Todd Boehly held a meeting with the representative of Benjamin Sesko at the weekend. The Blues have set their eyes on the RB Salzburg striker, who also has admirers at Manchester United.

Boehly had a face-to-face meeting with Elvis Basanovic, Sesko’s agent. But with the Austrian club placing a high price tag on the 19-year-old, it remains to be seen whether the Stamford Bridge side will continue their pursuit.

Chelsea have made two major signings this summer so far. Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly have arrived to bolster Thomas Tuchel’s options, but we need more to be able to compete against Manchester City and Liverpool.

The defence has been the priority this summer. With two key centre-backs leaving at the end of the season on free transfers, the club have had to focus on the area. There are also other defenders in the squad angling for a move away.

This has made us focus more on strengthening our backline in this transfer window. But bolstering our attack is also crucial. as the forward line failed to make a significant impact last season.

Romelu Lukaku was disappointing for Chelsea after arriving last summer. The Belgian had a difficult first season back in London. The 29-year-old was our top-scorer in the previous campaign, but he has been sent back to Inter Milan on a season-long loan.

Our other strikers including Timo Werner didn’t light up the Bridge either. Besides Kai Havertz, who was also inconsistent last season, fans were let down by every other attacker in the squad.

Going into the next campaign, for now, our frontline is almost the same with the exception of Armando Broja. The 20-year-old had a breakout season with Southampton in the previous campaign and has returned to the Blues.

Sesko seems to have a similar profile to the Albanian. Chelsea need to focus on bringing a proven goalscorer first before turning their attention toward a prospect. We have a lot of youngsters at our disposal but the club also needs players who are proven and can make an instant impact.
