Transfer News: Chelsea do not want to sell Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso to Barcelona

According to @CatalunyaRadio (via Managing Barça) [h/t Football. London], Chelsea do not want to sell defensive duo Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta to Barcelona this summer.

The Blues are not keen on opening any sort of dialogue with the Spanish club and are not interested in negotiations for the duo. Both clubs have had a cold war going on in the transfer window with Barcelona hijacking players Chelsea have an agreement with.

Players like Raphinha and Jules Kounde who were very close to joining the Blues this summer but eventually chose to join Barcelona instead. The Spanish club also signed Andreas Christensen on a free after he refused to renew a contract with the Blues.

This has meant that the Blues are not very keen on selling Alonso and Azpilicueta this summer, especially to Barcelona. The Spanish duo are keen on a move to Camp Nou this summer but it looks like the London club are going to play hard to get.

Azpilicueta is a legend of a club in his own right and has been our talismanic captain for quite some time now. His departure could affect us, especially during our time when our defence is far from settled and we are still looking for reinforcements.

The same cannot be said about Alonso though. The Spanish full-back who was forced to play a prominent role in the first team last season due to the absence of Ben Chilwell through injury is a good backup but we have players to fill his role in his absence.

Chelsea do not want to lose Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso amid Barcelona interest.

Hence, it might not be the worst thing for the left-back to leave the club this summer. At 32, Alonso might not have many years left in the top flight and if we sell him now, we could at least recuperate the minimum fee for the left wing-back..

Despite reports of Chelsea being interested in Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, it seems like the Blues are not keen on opening dialogue with the Spanish club. It remains to be seen if the Blues change their stance with time still left for the transfer window to end.
