Transfer News: Chelsea’s pursuit of Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang “not over yet”
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Chelsea’s pursuit of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is “not over yet” as both parties are scheduled to participate in more talks regarding a potential deal.
The Gabon international has fallen down the pecking order at Camp Nou after Robert Lewandowski’s arrival from Bayern Munich. Aubameyang joined Barca earlier this year in January after leaving Arsenal.
The Blues could use a natural centre-forward in their ranks. The two they had have returned to their former clubs.
Romelu Lukaku is back at Inter Milan on a season-long deal while Timo Werner sealed a permanent return to RB Leipzig. Armando Broja is an option but the Albania international doesn’t have that level of experience to be trusted week in, week out.
Auba to Chelsea?
There’s apparently a new meeting scheduled on Wednesday to further decide on the 2015 African Player of the Year’s future. Marcos Alonso is also linked with a move to Barca but that deal is believed to be separate from Aubameyang’s move.
Auba would know that he can get playing time at Chelsea. The Blues lost 2-1 to Southampton on Tuesday and the need for a striker was felt despite Raheem Sterling scoring once again.
The Gabonese striker is 33 years old and has proved his goal-scoring pedigree at clubs such as Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, and Barca. He could be a smart short-term fix for manager Thomas Tuchel if he does need a striker.

However, there isn’t a lot of time remaining in the window. Chelsea would be wise to be quick and decisive with regard to this deal. Currently, they are believed to be making an effort to sign 20-year-old RB Leipzig star Josko Gvardiol.
