Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling has admitted that he felt unhappy at his former club Manchester City. Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Metro), he expressed the frustration he suffered at his former club.
At the time I was fuming, raging, but it’s gone, it’s in the past and I can only focus on the present, which is now, here at Chelsea, and the opportunity I’ve got here to go out and showcase my talents once again.
Sterling joined Chelsea last month in a deal worth £47.5 million. The 27-year-old became the first signing for the Blues this summer and also the first one under the new ownership. Since his arrival, he has been a hit among the fans and also his new team-mates.
The England international left his former side after having fallen down the pecking order there. When he was asked to explain how his departure came about, the 27-year-old said it was due to a misunderstanding and his contract running down.
Misunderstandings, contracts running down. It was a shame to see how it ended in the end because I had such a great time there
However, things are different for the Englishman at London. He is a crucial member of Thomas Tuchel’s squad and has started both the games this season for him. A right-winger by trade, he is capable of playing anywhere in the front three.
A proven goal-scorer and winner, the four-time Premier League winner had a wonderful career at the Ethiad. He scored a whopping 131 goals in 339 appearances for the Cityzens in all competitions. He also won the Carabao Cup five times and the FA Cup one time during his seven-year spell at Manchester.
The winger has rotated with Kai Havertz to play as the striker for his current side for the past two games. It is likely he will continue to do so unless the Blues bring in a proper number nine. Having impressed in both the games this season, he is very much likely to start again this Sunday.
London born and raised, Sterling is now home. The 27-year-old is already a popular figure among the fans and will continue to be so given the quality performances he delivers on the pitch. He is very likely to get a lot of playing time this season, enabling him to cement his place further in the England national squad for the World Cup in November.
Tuchel will hope his side can continue their unbeaten start to the league this season. Having won one and drawn the other, fans and Tuchel will hope to take all three points against Leeds United this Sunday. Sterling is yet to score his first goal, but given his performance, fans will likely see it come soon.
