Brendan Rodgers insists Chelsea target Wesley Fofana is not for sale
Speaking in an interview as quoted by @CharDuncker (h/t Fabrizio Romano), Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has insisted that talented centre-back Wesley Fofana is not for sale despite strong interest from Premier League rivals Chelsea.
A very talented centre-back, Fofana is on Chelsea’s radar this summer as they look to bring in reinforcements for their defence. Thomas Tuchel is keen on bringing the French youngster and the Blues are willing to pay the big money for the Leicester defender.
Times report that Chelsea are planning an improved £70 million offer to Leicester City to tempt the Foxes into selling their prized asset. The club are forced to sell some of their players this summer and the Blues are trying to take advantage of that.
Brendan Rodgers however made it very clear that despite Leicester being in a position where they have to sell players, Fofana and James Maddinson are supposedly not for sale
“Wesley Fofana and James Maddison are not for sale. These are very important players to us. We’re in a situation where we need to move some players out but that doesn’t mean getting rid of anyone, our best assets”
With the Foxes manager seemingly closing the door on any sale with regards to Fofana, it remains to be seen how Chelsea go about this situation. They might still try to convince Leicester to sell them the Frenchman and things could change.
Fofana joined Leicester from Saint Etienne in 2020 and has since then gone on to establish himself as a solid player for the foxes. After an impressive first season., things were expected to be only on the rise for the talented French centre-back.
However, a fibula fracture that he suffered meant that Fofana missed the majority of last campaign, a season in which Brendan Rodger’s men struggled. He played just 12 games across all competitions managing to score a solitary goal while failing to provide a single assist.
Despite this, there is absolutely no denying the sheer talent that Fofana possesses. The 21-year-old made a rather solid return from the long-term injury that he suffered and there is no doubt that he can get his career back on track this time around.
