German Giants rekindle their interest in 23-year-old Chelsea star

Bayern Munich enquire about Chelsea star Kai Havertz

As reported by Sport1 correspondent Kerry Hau (h/t football.london), FC Bayern Munich have reignited their interest in Chelsea forward Kai Havertz. This after the Blues trumped them to the German international two years ago.

The 23-year-old moved from Bayer Leverkusen to Chelsea for an astonishing £72m in 2020 and there was a lot of excitement amongst the Blues supporters with the signing. One of Bundesliga’s top talents, the expectations were high.

However, it can be said that the German had a mixed start to his Chelsea career. While he has scored some important goals for the club such as in the UEFA Champions League final, there have also been several disappointing outings.

Kai Havertz has shown glimpses of his excellence at Chelsea.

In his two seasons at the club, he has managed 57 appearances in all competitions and contributed to a tally of 12 goals and nine assists. This is not an impressive record, especially considering the hype that surrounded the player when he was playing in the Bundesliga.

However, as many players have faced above, the transition to the Premier League is not an easy one for even the best players around. At 23, there is still time for Havertz to turn his fortunes around.

What’s next for Kai Havertz?

Bayern director Hasan Salihamidžic has enquired from the ROOF agency (which represents Havertz) about the possibility of bringing the German back to the Bundesliga next summer.

Die Roten sees Havertz as a potential long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who shifted his allegiance to FC Barcelona earlier this summer. Despite landing Sadio Mane, the Bavarians appear to be keen on adding further to their roster.

Having already established a household name in the German League, it would be wise to think that this transfer would make sense for all parties involved if it ever materialises.

After having already announced the departures of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner, it is expected that Havertz will lead the line. It will be interesting to see whether he is able to revitalise his Chelsea career and cement his place in the starting lineup.

Time is running out for the German international to fulfil his potential. As we have seen with Timo Werner, the Blues will be willing to cut their losses should a player fail to pull his weight. Just how much longer Havertz can get away with by putting in poor performances remains to be seen.
