Transfer News: Timo Werner could leave Chelsea this summer
Chelsea striker Timo Werner has dropped a huge hint that his future may lie away from Chelsea this summer. In an interview published in the Daily Mail, the striker admitted that he could be happy anywhere.
The German striker has no doubt failed to fulfil his potential and justify the £47.5 million price tag since arriving at Stamford Bridge. He has been linked with a move away from the Bridge this summer and the arrival of Raheem Sterling does not help in silencing such rumours.
The 26-year-old said that he was happy at Chelsea and that he should just play and score goals while other things would take of themselves. When asked if that happiness could come elsewhere, he responded sharply
“ I could be happy everywhere.”
Werner has just managed to score 10 goals in the Premier League ever since moving there in 2020. The striker struggled for game time and featured only 21 times in the league last season.
“ I think of course the manager always has different ideas, different thoughts and what you need in different games, I think in many games I was not in his thoughts so I try to change that.”
The German has admitted that he needs to play more if he wishes to make the Germany international squad for the World Cup in November. He is likely to face tough competition and if his form and game time do not improve, it could become very difficult for him to travel to Qatar with the rest of the squad.
His inconsistent form in front of goal had Thomas Tuchel sign Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan last season. But following his miserable season, he has been loaned back to Inter. Tuchel has signed Sterling and he can play in the number nine position, but it has been argued that the Blues need a proper out-and-out striker.
Wener was on the scoresheet during the game against Club America last Sunday. It is likely he will feature again during the Blue’s next game against Charlotte on July 21. A top striker, he has been lacking confidence during his time at Chelsea and Tuchel will hope he can change that during the pre-season.

It remains to be seen if Werner departs. A suitable offer may bring Chelsea to sit on the table, but the player’s £270,000-a-week wages may prove to be a stumbling block. Whether or not Werner will play at Stamford Bridge next season remains to be seen.
