Transfer News: Thomas Tuchel may not allow Cesar Azpilicueta to leave the club this summer
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has revealed that he may not allow Cesar Azpilicueta to leave the club this summer. This is according to football.london who claim that Barcelona are interested in the Chelsea captain.
Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso are both wanted by Barcelona this summer and Tuchel may not allow the former to leave. He has said that he may not grant the club captain his wish.
“I’m not sure if I want to give Azpi what he wants. At some point, it’s also about us.”
Tuchel said this ahead of Chelsea’s pre-season game against Arsenal in the United States. He has admitted that he wants to add one more defender before the end of transfer deadline and plans on keeping his skipper for another season.
His comments come amid interest from both Chelsea and Barcelona for Jules Kounde. Both the clubs are said to be going head-to-head for the player with no confirmation for whom the player will sign.
Azpilicueta joined the Blues from Marseille in 2012. A club legend, the 32-year-old has gone and won every trophy available to him, writing his name for eternity at Stamford Bridge. The Spanish international has scored 17 times in 474 appearances for the club.
It is said Barcelona have agreed personal terms with the player, but are yet to reach an agreement with the Blues. His departure would leave Tuchel with Reece James as the only available option in the right-back position. With no backup, this is a situation the German tactician would love to avoid.
Should Tuchel block the player’s move, there are chances that it may damage the player’s relationship with the coach and club. A broken relationship with the club captain could have implications for the whole team. The fans would also not be happy to see their legend being forced to stay at the club.
