Nordi Mukiele has joined Paris Saint-Germain this summer ahead of Chelsea. This is according to Fabrizio Romano (h/t The Sun) who claims that Chelsea were also interested in the French right-back.
The defender is said to have joined the Parisian club for a reported fee of £13.5 million. The French international is said to have been of interest to the Blues who had offered Timo Werner in exchange for the player.
He becomes the third player to have snubbed Chelsea this summer with Raphinha and Jules Kounde being the other two. Missing out on the right-back will definitely come as a blow to Tuchel and co.
Chelsea had agreed for a fee with Jules Kounde with Sevilla but Barcelona is said to have swooped in at the last minute to hijack the deal. If that was not frustrating enough, Paris Saint-Germain has signed another target on the list of Chelsea.
Mukiele would have made an ideal signing for Tuchel. A right-back who can also play as a centre-back, he would have helped add depth and increase competition among squad members. With Cesar Azpilicueta being constantly linked with a move away from Chelsea, he could have been an ideal replacement for the Spaniard.
But now that is not to be. The 24-year-old Frenchman has signed a five-year deal with the Parisian club which will keep him at the club till 2027. Given his age, he could have potentially spent the peak years of his career at Stamford Bridge but that now is impossible.
The 24-year-old has been in fine form ever since moving to Germany. He enjoyed an exceptional season last season having won the DFB Pokal and reaching the semi-finals of the Europa League. Such fine form earned him his first call-up to the national team.
It will now be interesting to see whom Chelsea sign. They are in need of another centre-back, but their options are running low. Who all arrive at the club before the window ends will be interesting to see.
