Transfer news: Chelsea schedule new direct contact with Manchester City to close Raheem Sterling deal
Fabrizio Romano on Twitter has said that Chelsea have scheduled new direct contact with Manchester City to close the Raheem Sterling deal. There have been positive talks and Chelsea are now waiting for final details on both player and club to complete the deal.
It is thought that the fee for Sterling will be around £45million. A Queens Park Rangers youth graduate, the former Liverpool man moved to the Manchester side in 2015.
And Sterling did not disappoint. He has been a star man for the Cityzens since his arrival, playing 337 games for the Manchester side and scoring 131 goals and notching up 94 assists. He has also added four Premier League titles to his name.
However, the England international has now fallen down the pecking order and seems to have lost the trust of Pep Guardiola. He spent last season playing mainly as a substitute and was also left out of a handful of crucial games by the coach.
Back to London?
Thomas Tuchel is having a squad revamp under the new ownership at Stamford Bridge. He has seen his first-team players depart in Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Romelu Lukaku. The German is yet to make a signing this summer.
Chelsea were lacking threat in front of goal last season. The Blues failed to find the back of the net as much as they would have liked. Apart from this, they also lost the FA Cup and League Cup to Liverpool last campaign without scoring a single goal in the two finals.
A serious attacker is needed and Tuchel seems to be aware of it. Sterling is an out-and-out winger but we have seen him play as a false nine at times under Pep Guardiola.
If Sterling makes the switch to SW6, there is no doubt that he would expect to start almost every game for the club. Otherwise, leaving a team like Man City would not make a lot of sense.
Also, Sterling moved to London when he was five years old and spent seven years at QPR’s academy. He is familiar with the neighbourhood of West London and now it seems he could be on his way back home.
Above all this, the man has spent his entire playing career in the Premier League and has already proven himself to be one of the best widemen in England.

He is someone Chelsea seriously need to help them find the back of the net if they wish to compete with the likes of City and Liverpool. The Chelsea fans and management will hope that this deal goes through and there are no hiccups on the way. Only time will tell if we will see Sterling in a Chelsea kit next season.
