Transfer News: Chelsea interested in signing Southampton’s Tyler Dibling
According to Football Insider (h/t Football. London), Chelsea are interested in signing highly-rated Southampton attacking midfielder Tyler Dibling with Newcastle United also in the fray.
A highly-rated prospect, Dibling has attracted clubs in Europe with his performances in the youth set-up and the Blues are said to be huge fans of the 16-year-old. An attacking midfielder by trade, the starlet can also play his football on either wing.
Dibling was promoted from the academy to the U-18 team at the beginning of the 2021-22 season. A highly talented midfielder, the 16-year-old shows maturity beyond his age whilst playing for the reserves of the Saints and is definitely a huge prospect.
The teenage starlet played 26 times for the reserve team of Southampton last season. In these appearances, Dibling managed to chip in with eight goals and also ended up providing five assists across all competitions in 1573 minutes on the pitch.
Such numbers are not normal for a 16-year-old and it is just evidence of all the qualities that Dibling possesses. He is much more than just these stats though with the talented English attacking midfielder an excellent influence on the pitch with his performances.
Chelsea are not short of young midfielders by any stretch. Two names that come to mind immediately are Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour but both those players are much older and much more experienced than Dibling right now.
There will certainly be some gems in the Cobham academy who are of the same age as the Southampton starlet but it definitely does not hurt to add one more for the future. There is no doubt that Dibling will have to be signed and handled very carefully.

The last thing we want is to sign a promising youngster and stall his development hence if we sign the Southampton teenager, we must certainly have a plan in mind. That said, we can trust Thomas Tuchel to do the right thing and Dibling does sound like an exciting one for the future.
