Transfer News: Chelsea have missed out on Eder Militao after the defender signed a new contract
Chelsea have missed out on the opportunity to sign Eder Militao this summer. This comes after the player signed a new contract with Real Madrid which will keep him at the Santiago Bernabeu till 2028.
The Blues were interested in signing the centre-back this summer according to The Sun. After having lost Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen for free, the Blues had hoped to sign the Brazilian centre-back to compensate for their losses.
But any such hopes will now be over as the 24-year-old has put pen to paper a new deal that includes a staggering release clause of £425 million. This release clause is sure to fend away any interested suitor and shows his importance to the team.
Militao would have been an exceptional signing for the Blues. The Brazilian replaced Madrid legend, Sergio Ramos, last season who joined PSG and he did not disappoint. He built a formidable partnership with David Alaba at the back and went on to win the La Liga and the Champions League.
Thomas Tuchel has signed Kalidou Koulibaly this summer and is hoping to sign one more centre-back. The Brazilian would have made a fine signing, but that is very unlikely to happen now. That does not mean there aren’t other options that we can bring in.
Jules Kounde, Benjamin Pavard and Josko Gvardiol are a few names linked with a move to Stamford Bridge this summer. The Blues are said to have agreed on a fee for Kounde but Barcelona are planning to hijack the deal which would leave Chelsea fans and management very frustrated.
Apart from this, Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso are said to be linked with a move to Barcelona. Tuchel has a mammoth task ahead of him. He has to sign a quality defender while also making sure his players don’t leave. It could be an interesting month for Chelsea.
