Transfer News: Chelsea are trying to hijack PSG’s move for Nordi Mukiele
Chelsea are said to be trying to hijack the transfer of Nordi Mukiele to Paris Saint-Germain. This is according to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna (h/t The Sun).
The Paris club are said to have agreed to terms with RB Leipzig and the player, but the Blues are trying to swoop in late and snatch the player away. The report adds that Chelsea are ready to offer Timo Werner in exchange for the defender.
Such a move comes after reports claimed that Barcelona have swooped in at the last moment to hijack the transfer of Jules Kounde to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea hoped to sign the player and end their year-long chase after him, but that is looking unlikely.
PSG are confident that they can see off the threat from Tuchel and co to land the player. They are desperately trying to get the contract signed by Wednesday to officially unveil the player as part of their squad for 2022/23.
Chelsea have offered Werner back to the club after signing him from them in 2020. The striker has failed to replicate his Bundesliga form at Stamford Bridge, having struggled in front of goal for the last couple of seasons. And now he could be on his way back home.
Reece James and Cesar Azpilicueta are currently the right-backs available to Tuchel. Azpilicueta is linked with a move to Barcelona this summer and Tuchel seems to have found his replacement. Mukiele would be an ideal signing for Tuchel.
The 24-year-old right-back has been in fine form ever since moving to Germany from the French side Montpellier. A regular starter he helped his side win the DFB Pokal last season and reach the semi-finals of the Europa League.
His efforts were recognised and he was called up to play for France last year. A swap deal would benefit both the players and the clubs, but PSG could still prove to be a huddle. A right-back who can also play as a centre-back, Mukiele would make a fine addition to Tuchel’s squad.
