Chelsea identify Bundesliga star as their alternative to Cristiano Ronaldo this summer

Transfer News: Chelsea are considering a move for Robert Lewandowski if Barcelona fail to sign him

Chelsea are considering a swoop for Bayern Munich talisman Robert Lewandowski if his move to Barcelona fails to materialise. The 33-year-old has been linked with a move away from Allianz Arena this summer, with Camp Nou being the Polish star’s preferred destination.

According to the Daily Star, Chelsea are considering swooping in should his move fail to go through. The economic turmoil of the Catalunya club is well known, and Thomas Tuchel is considering the Bayern star to lead his front line next season. Chelsea have also been linked with a move for Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo, but the Independent claims that Tuchel has very less interest in pursuing a deal for the Portuguese ace.

Lewandowski was lethal in front of the goal last season as the Polish international scored a whopping 35 goals in 34 league appearances for Die Roten, as they lifted a 10th successive Bundesliga title. Not only that, he scored 13 goals in the Champions League last season, as they crashed out in the quarter-finals.

Chelsea could swoop in for Robert Lewandowski.

Tuchel has a task ahead of him as he oversees a revamp of his squad. Romelu Lukaku was shipped back on loan to Inter Milan after a disappointing last season. This leaves Timo Werner as the club’s ace striker, with the German known for his fluctuating form in front of goal.

The club needs an infallible goalscorer who can lead the line with minimal fuss. There are only a handful of such strikers that fit such a bill other than Lewandowski. The Polish is known for his clinical finishing and bagging a handful of goals every season. Considering how inconsistent Chelsea were in front of the goal last season, signing the Polish international would help them solve that problem.

However, it will not be easy to convince Bayern to let go of their talisman and have constantly maintained that he is not for sale. Plus, the player himself dreams of playing for Barcelona. But, if that deal does not happen, a move to Stamford Bridge has not been completely ruled out.

But he is not the only forward Tuchel has onn his mind for next season. Raheem Sterling is said to be close to sealing a move to Chelsea, while the Blues remain interested in Ousmane Dembele and Raphinha. For the defensive department, Matthijs de Ligt, Nathan Ake and Jules Kounde are the front-runners in Tuchel’s shortlist.

More Chelsea News:

If Chelsea can secure the signing of Lewandowski, it could prove to be one of the best transfers of this summer. A serial-goal scorer, he would help the team mount up a challenge for the league title. As for Chelsea fans, they would love that the player scores for them, rather than coming up against him.
