Chelsea striker Armando Broja is in high demand currently and the Blues might be willing to listen to offers for him this summer. This is according to CBS journalist Ben Jacobs (h/t football.london), who reports that the Albanian is open to a permanent transfer if he is not given instant game time.
Broja, a Chelsea youth graduate, spent last season on loan at fellow Premier League side Southampton. This is where he made his mark and gained the attention of quite a few clubs. West Ham United, Napoli and Newcastle United are all said to be interested in securing the 20-year-old’s services.
His return of nine goals in 38 appearances last season caught the eyes of many and unsurprisingly gave his prospects at Stamford Bridge a shot in the arm. Broja appears convinced of the same and after a couple of loan spells, he is seeking regular playtime at Chelsea.
Thomas Tuchel wants to first assess the player during pre-season and then decide upon his future. The Albanian is a strong, dominant forward and that sets him aside for Tuchel’s current pool of attackers. With Timo Werner struggling, the Chelsea boss could do with alternative options upfront.
Chelsea usually assesses their Cobham graduates during pre-season and are currently doing the same this year. Broja is also part of the pre-season squad in the United States and it is very likely he will feature in games during that time. He has the chance to impress Tuchel and do justice to the hype surrounding him.
Currently, Timo Werner is the only senior striking option in the squad. Michy Batshuayi, who returned from a loan, does not appear to have Tuchel’s trust. Werner’s inconsistency in scoring makes the team lack the threat in front of the goal. Rather than looking for someone in the market, Tuchel can give a chance to Broja, who is already aware of the ethos of the club.
Tuchel might not make him the first team-striker, but he could be a reliable backup who gets enough playing time. At just 20, he has a lot to learn and a top-class coach like Tuchel could provide him with the necessary guidance. With the right guidance, the Albanian could develop into a reliable goalscorer.
Several Chelsea starlets have made the jump to the first team in recent years and Broja could be the next name on the list. With the pre-season just beginning, it will be interesting to see where his future lies.
