AC Milan step up talks for Chelsea star

Transfer News: AC Milan step up talks for Chelsea star Hakim Ziyech

According to the Daily Mail, Italian giants AC Milan are ready to step up talks to land Moroccan star Hakim Ziyech from Chelsea this summer transfer window.

The Italian giants have been interested in the talented Blues winger throughout this summer but a move has not materialised yet. Milan are now set to step up their talks and land their man.

Ziyech’s time at Chelsea has been rather mixed. Whilst he has undoubtedly shown flashes of his potential, injuries have meant that the former Ajax Amsterdam man has been unable to become the kind of player he was expected to become when he came here first.

Ziyech joined the Blues from Ajax in 2020 and big things were expected of the creative winger. A huge talent during his time in Amsterdam under Erik ten Hag, the 29-year-old has the qualities required to succeed at a club of Chelsea’s standard.

Despite all his injury troubles, the talented wide man played 44 times for Thomas Tuchel’s team last season, scoring eight goals and providing six assists across all competitions. Considering most of these appearances came off the bench, it shows the quality that Ziyech possesses.

If Ziyech were to stay on at Stamford Bridge next season, he would undoubtedly be of importance to Thomas Tuchel and could even go on to have the career envisioned when he first moved here from Amsterdam.

However, the competition for places has only gotten more with the Blues signing English winger Raheem Sterling from Manchester City. Sterling is a superstar in his own right and would undoubtedly command a starting role in Tuchel’s team next season.

Hence, it is not very clear how Ziyech will fit into Tuchel’s plan if he were to stay. Whether the Blues will sell the 29-year-old before bringing in a replacement remains to be seen.

Should he leave, Ziyech’s time at Stamford Bridge will be an example of what might have been. The 29-year-old struggled with form and injuries and often fell short of expectations.
