According to SkySports (h/t Fabrizio Romano), AC Milan are growing increasingly confident about signing Moroccan star Hakim Ziyech from Chelsea.
The Blues are willing to part ways with the talented Moroccan winger this summer and are looking at other options to reinforce the wing position. The former Ajax man has had a mixed time at Stamford Bridge and it seems like he has run his course at SW6.
Whilst he has undoubtedly shown flashes of brilliance during his time with the Blues, he has not become the player he was expected to become. Injuries played their part in that, of course.
Ziyech joined Chelsea from Ajax in 2020 and was expected to become an important player for Chelsea. He has been a rotation player at best but he has done a pretty decent job. This season, the 29-year-old has played 44 times this season scoring eight goals and providing six assists across all competitions.
Having recently retired from international football with the Morocco national team, Ziyech is set to devote his entire playing career to club football. Whilst he could still do a job for Thomas Tuchel’s team, it seems like the winger is set to play his football in Italy.
AC Milan are said to be interested in signing Ziyech and are extremely confident of pulling off a deal. The Moroccan is also said to be keen on continuing his career in San Siro and hence it is a move that could work for all parties involved.
Ziyech is extremely versatile. He can play on either wing, as a second striker, and even in midfield. That said, the 29-year-old has made his name playing largely down the right flank for Ajax and the Blues.
Chelsea are focussing on signing new wingers ahead of next season. They have been heavily linked with Ousmane Dembele, Raheem Sterling and Raphinha amongst other players.
Selling Hakim Ziyech could help fund these transfers and with the player also willing to leave, it makes sense that the Blues are keen on parting ways with the former Ajax man. Milan also bought Fikayo Tomori and Olivier Giroud off our hands last summer, while also loaning Tiemoue Bakayoko.
Ziyech’s time at Chelsea has not been as good as it could have been. He will, however, always be remembered for the stunning striker against Tottenham in the Premier League last season amongst other moments- if he does depart for Serie A.
