Thomas Tuchel blocks move for wantaway Chelsea star still in his plans

Thomas Tuchel blocks move for wantaway Chelsea forward Timo Werner

Thomas Tuchel doesn’t want to lose Timo Werner this summer and has blocked any move the forward seeks from Chelsea. The gaffer still has the 26-year-old in his plans and has ‘put a stop’ to the German’s desire to leave the Blues, according to Kicker (h/t Metro).

Werner is seemingly unhappy with the game time he’s been provided at Chelsea. However, with the Qatar World Cup round the corner, the German is looking to be in contention for Hansi Flick’s side.

Tuchel has sparsely used Wener throughout his reign at Stamford Bridge. And the 26-year-old is keen on moving away from the to have more opportunities on the pitch.

Chelsea signed Werner from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2020. The German’s prolific run in the Bundesliga prompted the Blues to make a move for the attacker. But the 26-year-old has failed to replicate his form in London.

In Werner’s two seasons at Chelsea, the forward has scored 23 goals in all competitions. His impact in front of the goal has been inconsistent. And Tuchel has opted for other options in front of the German.

Werner started just 15 Premier League games in the previous campaign, scoring four goals. The German was played in various positions by the gaffer, but he mainly operated in the centre-forward position.

Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech, Romelu Lukaku and Christian Pulisic played more games last season than Werner. However, our attack was lacklustre and almost all of our forwards didn’t live up to the mark, including the German.

Werner did have his moments though. The 26-year-old gave the team more energy when coming off the bench. The German’s speed is a significant asset in the squad. In the Champions League, the forward has stepped up when needed.

With Lukaku having left the club and the futures of other forwards uncertain, keeping Werner in the squad is a wise option. We’ve only managed one incoming attacker in this transfer window as of yet. Tuchel must keep hold of our players with the long season ahead.
