Speaking in an interview to BBC as quoted by popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, English right-back Reece James has insisted that he enjoys playing for Chelsea and will like to stay at Stamford Bridge for a very long time.
One of the most talented players to come out of the Cobham academy in recent years, Reece James is a player who Chelsea must feel lucky to have. He is the perfect modern football one can ask for and offers a lot to Thomas Tuchel’s team.
Exceptional going forward and equally adept defensively, Reece James is everything that you crave in a modern full-back and much more. One thing that makes him stand out from the rest of the crop is his finishing, which is exceptional for a defender.
One of the most instrumental players in Thomas Tuchel’s system at Chelsea, we could see how much the Blues struggled due to the absence of James due to an injury midway through last season and it is no coincidence that their performances slipped.
James played 39 times for the Blues this season scoring six goals and providing 10 assists across all competitions. It could have been much more, if not for the unfortunate injury that he suffered but the stats are there for everyone to see how much quality the English international possesses.
Speaking about his future with the Blues, James insisted that he would love to stay at Chelsea and that he is extremely happy here.
“Staying at Chelsea long term, I’d like it. I grew up as a Chelsea fan and I’ve made my name playing here, the club I’ve always supported. I don’t see why anything would change. I play for Chelsea now and I’m enjoying it”
A true Chelsea boy throughout, we must do everything to ensure James’ desire of staying at Stamford Bridge for a very long time. We cannot get someone better than the 22-year-old and this could be a relationship that could last for many years.
Arguably one of the best full-backs in the Premier League alongside Joao Cancelo and Trent Alexander-Arnold, James can only get better from here on. It is easy to forget that he is just 22 due to his exceptional performances and he still has a lot of time to develop.
Regardless, James has been pretty vocal about what he wants. It is up to us now to put that to fruition and tie him down to a new long-term deal before the European giants start lurking around.
