Transfer News: Raheem Sterling joins Chelsea from Manchester City
According to the club’s official website, Chelsea have completed the signing of Raheem Sterling. The former Manchester City star becomes the first signing of the summer for the Blues and also the first signing under the new Boehly-Clearlake administration.
Sterling had been linked with the west London club since the start of the transfer window, and after some long negotiations, he is finally a Chelsea player. The fee is said to be around the region of £50 million.
The England international has been a phenomenal player for City. Ever since his move to the Etihad from Liverpool in 2015, he went from strength to strength every season. The 27-year-old recorded outstanding numbers for City, scoring a whopping 131 goals in 337 appearances for the Cityzens in all competitions.
A first of many?
Surprisingly, Sterling is the first signing for the Blues this summer. Blues fans have had to wait a while to see their club make their move in the transfer window. It is fair to say that it was worth the wait.
It was no secret that Chelsea were inconsistent in front of goal last season. A clinical finisher was required and looks like Thomas Tuchel has just gone and got that. His goal-scoring record in the league speaks for itself as Tuchel will hope that he can solve their attacking woes next season.
One of his best traits is arriving late in the box with a purpose. He has the knack of being at the end of most crosses and always has empty nets in front of him to score in. The Chelsea wing-backs will be more than happy with his arrival, as they will look forward to delivering the ball to him. His being a proven goal scorer in the Premier League will be the cherry on the top for Tuchel.
Tuchel will hope that he proves his money’s worth. The squad has been undergoing a revamp this summer and Sterling could potentially be the first of a few new faces for the Blues. Tuchel will hope to have a squad ready before the start of the new season as he hopes to mount a title challenge.

As for the Blues’ fans, they will be more than happy to see Sterling play for them rather than come up against him. A London boy, Sterling will also be near his family and home and this should serve as extra motivation for him to bag as many goals as he can during his time at Stamford Bridge.
