Chelsea confirmed the 29-man squad for the pre-season that will travel to the United States, with the midfield duo of N’Golo Kante and Ruben Loftus-Cheek set to miss out due to their “Covid vaccination status”.
The team flew to the States on Saturday ahead of a summer training camp and three friendlies against Club America, Charlotte and Arsenal. The Blues will finish their pre-season with a friendly in Italy against Udinese on July 29.
Chelsea will take on Club America on 16 July, while they play Charlotte on 20 July. They will wrap up their Stateside tour by playing a London derby against Arsenal on 23 July.
USA international Christian Pulisic is part of the squad. Ben Chilwell makes a comeback after having been sidelined for most of the last season due to his recovery from a serious knee injury. The German duo of Kai Havertz and Timo Werner are also included.
Armando Broja, who spent last on loan at Southampton has been named in the squad but will join them next week. Other players who were on loan last season like Ethan Ampadu, Emerson Palmieri, Conor Gallagher, Billy Gilmour and Michy Batshuayi are all part of the 29-man pre-season squad.
Youngsters have also been named in the squad as Tuchel will assess them and decide their role for next season. Teddy Sharman-Lowe is one of the four goalkeepers named. Midfielder Harry Vale is back after captaining England to victory at the Under-19 Euros.
Defender Levi Colwill, who helped Huddersfield reach the play-off final, is also part of the squad after completing his loan spell.
It will be interesting to see if any new faces join the squad in America. Also more interesting would be if Tuchel is planning to change his playing style for next season or will continue with his 3-4-2-1. It could be a fun time for Chelsea and their fans in America.
This also comes as a chance for the club to consolidate its fanbase in the USA. Our new owners hail from the United States of America and would certainly want us to have a strong fanbase there.
