According to Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports (h/t Football.London), Chelsea are still trying to sign Raphinha from Leeds, but new owner Todd Boehly wants to get it done soon or else he would move on to other targets.
Raphinha has been a part of one of the window’s most engrossing transfer sagas. The 25-year-old has been certain that he wants to sign for his ideal team Barcelona during the summer transfer window and the deal seems very much done.
However, now it is believed that Chelsea haven’t ended their interest in the Brazilian winger and the Blues seem to be very much in the race. They are interested in pushing for the transfer deal in the coming days as Todd Boehly has no intention to wait around any longer.
Since joining Leeds in 2020 from Ligue 1 team Stade Rennais, Raphinha has been the team’s top player. Under Marcelo Bielsa, the Brazilian enjoyed an outstanding first season in the Premier League, contributing to his team’s ninth-place finish.
However, the Whites struggled and fought for relegation in his second season, but the 25-year-old’s efforts stood out. Raphinha significantly contributed to Leeds’ survival.
The Brazilian has made 67 appearances for the West Yorkshire team, scoring 17 goals and making 11 assists. His talents and propensity for scoring goals have been on display at Elland Road, and Blues supporters are hoping the team will move him to Stamford Bridge for the upcoming campaign.
Fans had hoped that the team would contend for the league, but the season has been disappointing at the Bridge. Instead, the team’s performance plummeted at the end of the campaign.
We scored, of course, but not as much as we would have liked. Romelu Lukaku is off to Italy on a temporary deal and we can certainly hope that the club has a plan in place to get in a world-class attacker.
Raphinha could be the ideal candidate to resurrect the Chelsea forward line after the underwhelming play of the majority of our forwards this year. But if his mind is on a move to Barca, would signing Raphinha be the best possible deal for us?
Fans would then worry about the Brazilian having his eye on a move to Camp Nou after he comes to SW6 but then again, we can trust the Blues to protect their future interests with an iron-clad contract. This is, of course, something that can only become a possibility if the Blues can seal a deal for him ahead of Barca.
