According to Daily Express, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel isn’t at all interested in selling Armando Broja this summer despite interest in the youngster from elsewhere.
Chelsea have signed Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly but have fallen short on other fronts. The Blues are also struggling to keep hold of players who are seeking a move elsewhere.
Armando Broja is one of them. He joined Chelsea late for the US tour but had to fly back to London last week after suffering an injury in training. The Albanian is seeking regular playing time, something that might not be possible at Chelsea.
After an outstanding loan season at Southampton in 2021–2022, where he established himself as one of the division’s top young striker prospects, the 20-year-old has been a major target for numerous Premier League sides. Broja scored nine goals overall and six in the Premier League last season, not particularly impressive numbers.
Newcastle United, Everton, and West Ham United are all interested in him following his promising string of performances. The Hammers appeared poised to sign the Chelsea prospect, but their interest has now subsided, giving away the advantage to the other two Premier League giants.
However, it appears that he may have to remain at Chelsea this summer given that Thomas Tuchel is hesitant to approve the Albanian forward’s transfer.
In the end, everything will depend on Chelsea and what they want to do with their prized possession. With Romelu Lukaku already sent out on loan, Michy Batshuayi being out of favour and Timo Werner’s future in question, Chelsea lacks a clear number nine.
With his dexterity and ability to link up with his teammates at St Mary’s Park, Broja astounded the audience and gave an indication of his potential. He could have finished the season with even more goals if he had been more proficient. He is still developing his technique, though, and could be a player to watch out for in the future.
We can’t afford to continue making mistakes with our nascent talents and academy grads going forward. For instance, Tammy Abraham, Tino Livramento, Tariq Lamptey, Marc Guehi, and Fikayo Tomori would have been solid first-team players the next season.
It would be good for us to avoid adding Broja to that list. Broja’s performances last season, in which he scored nine goals and added an assist in 38 appearances across all competitions, have garnered much interest.
Whether Tuchel’s comments hint at Broha being handed a major role next season is debatable. Chelsea will be advised to not put all their eggs in one basket, especially one that is far from proven as a consistent performer.
