Chelsea are set to make a bumper offer for Sporting’s Matheus Nunes
According to A Bola (h/t Daily Express), Chelsea are set to launch their first offer for Matheus Nunes in the next few hours.
A midfielder for Sporting CP in the Primeira Liga and for Portugal’s national team, Matheus Nunes started his career at Ericeirense. The Portuguese international has played in 99 games across all competitions since being promoted to Sporting Lisbon’s senior team in 2020, directly contributing to 15 goals in the process.
Todd Boehly, the new owner who replaced Roman Abramovich, is prepared to make a £43 million (£39m plus £4m add-ons) bid for Matheus Nunes of Sporting Lisbon in order to get the advantage on Wolves and Everton. The Blues are ready to submit a bid for the Sporting Lisbon midfielder imminently.
Despite interest in Jules Koude, Raheem Sterling, and Raphinha, as well as continuous speculations regarding Cristiano Ronaldo and now Nunes, Thomas Tuchel has not made any signings this summer.
Nunes would be one of the wise decisions in reviving the club’s midfield opportunities as new Chelsea owner Boehly looks to make a quick impression at the club this summer.
Last season, the 23-year-old central midfielder shone in the Champions League so brilliantly that Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, even singled him out for praise.
Chelsea’s midfield is becoming increasingly problematic, and Nunes would be the perfect signing to help Tuchel fill out his squad.
Important midfielders Jorginho and N’Golo Kante have contracts that expire in the summer of 2023. Although Jorginho’s agent has scheduled extension discussions for September, Kante’s future is still unknown. Additionally, Mateo Kovacic, a third important piece of Tuchel’s club, has a contract that expires in 2024.
Last summer, Chelsea made an unsuccessful attempt to fill up their roster with Saul Niguez. The loanee from Atletico Madrid found it challenging to fit in at Chelsea and in the Premier League.

But if the Blues recruit Nunes, they might have even more success this time around considering the success of recent Portuguese league transfers to the Premier League.
It would make a lot of sense for Thomas Tuchel to be seeking a new, younger midfielder. It remains to be seen if the West London team becomes successful in materialising the deal.
