According to French outlet RMC Sport (h/t The Sun), Neymar could potentially leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer, with Chelsea touted as a possible destination.
PSG were apparently willing to sell the Brazilian for the right price. Now it seems that he could be heading to the Premier League with Chelsea, Manchester United and Newcastle United as possible destinations.
This comes after it is said that Neymar was left unhappy with certain comments by PSG president Nasser Al-Kaelaifi. The former Barcelona star is said to be talking to his representatives about a potential move away from the club this summer.
The Brazilian moved to PSG from Barcelona for a world record fee of £200million in summer of 2017. And after five years in the French capital, the 30-year-old may leave Paris.
Chelsea are undergoing a massive squad overhaul this summer, following new ownership of the club. Thomas Tuchel is keen to add some players as he prepares to lead the Blues into a new era. Though they are yet to make a signing this summer, Neymar could potentially become the first signing under new owner, Todd Boehly.
Romelu Lukaku could join Inter Milan on loan, while there were reports that Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner could also leave. There was a lack of threat in front of goal for the Blues last season on many occassions, and Tuchel will be aware of that problem. Signing an attacker would make sense, and forwards don’t get any better than Neymar.
He can play as an attacking midfielder or a second striker apart from his natural position on the left wing. Such versatility would help Tuchel, who likes to rotate his attackers in various positions. His signature also would be a marquee signing for Chelsea, as he is already a proven world-class player.
The problem would be to agree to a fee with PSG who would like to make some money considering the investment they made five years ago. Even if this is sorted, the player’s wage would be a problem as Neymar makes £600,000 a week in Paris.
That salary would be a very high figure for any club to pay and it remains to be seen how the Blues manage the financial aspects of signing a megastar such as Neymar- if this deal ever becomes a possibility.
It remains to be seen what happens with the Brazilian, but his signing would be a statement for Chelsea. He still has a lot to offer on the pitch, with many regarding him as one of the best players in the world.
