According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea star Mason Mount has been waiting for a new contract offer from the club for months with the board also said to be tying the player down to a long-term deal as soon as possible.
One of the biggest prospects to arrive out of the famed Cobham conveyor belt, Mount broke through in the first team under former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard and has since then gone on to develop into one of the best players in the Premier League.
Truly a world-class player who has all the skills required to be one of the best attacking midfielders in the Premier League, Mount’s influence on the Chelsea team knows no bounds. The 23-year-old has played 53 times for Thomas Tuchel this season, scoring thirteen goals and providing sixteen assists.
With a contract that expires in 2024, Chelsea are not at a stage where they will have to worry about Mount’s situation yet. Despite this, both parties will want to come to an agreement and get the player on a long-term deal to ensure his future at Stamford Bridge.
If there is something the Blues cannot do, it is to lose a player of Mount’s quality, especially if it was to one of our rivals.
The Englishman at such a young age has broken through and established himself as one of the most influential players in the Premier League. He always seems to make the hard things look simple on the pitch and has a very calming presence.
Having already won 27 caps in an extremely talented English forward line, the talent that Mount possesses knows no bounds. If he continues his progress in a similar vein and keeps on putting in such performances, he can only keep getting better.
One of Mount’s most important assets is his versatility. Predominantly an attacking midfielder who can also play in central midfield, the 23-year-old can also do a job out wide on either wing. This helps him fit into the team in any given role and thrive there.
Undoubtedly a star man for Chelsea, Mount should stay on at Stamford Bridge for many years to come. It is absolutely vital that we tie him down to a new deal and ensure his stay beyond 2024.
And for that, Todd Boehly and co must put forth an offer that reflects his value to the club. Having flourished under Frank Lampard, Mount has become the present and future of this Chelsea team.
