Transfer News: Manchester City are confident of beating Chelsea to Marc Cucurella
According to The Sun, Manchester City are said to be confident of signing Brighton left-back Marc Cucurella with Chelsea also interested in the defender.
Cucurella joined Brighton from Getafe back in the summer and has since then gone on to establish himself as one of the most promising left-backs in the Premier League. Highly attacking in nature, the Spaniard is also good defensively and has all the attributes desired in a modern full-back.
The 23-year-old has played 38 times for Graham Potter’s side this season and although he hasn’t scored any goals, he has provided two assists across all competitions. Whilst these numbers don’t tell the actual story, the former Barcelona man has been far better than the records suggest.
Manchester City and Chelsea have been interested in bringing the talented Spaniard to their respective clubs, but Man City are said to be confident of beating the Blues to the signing of Cucurella.
A solid option?
A product of the famed La Masia academy, the talented Spaniard was not able to break into the Barcelona team and had to look to pastures new for an opportunity.
The 23-year-old has all the raw material required to make it big at a club like Chelsea or Manchester City. Excellent going forward, Cucurella is everything that a manager would crave from a modern dull-back and his output is only bound to increase.
Most players coming in from other leagues do not take to the Premier League like fish to water but Cucurella has managed to do just that. He has settled into the Brighton team real well and it is no surprise that the big PL clubs want to sign him.
If the Blues manage to land Cucurella, they could look to use the Spaniard in multiple ways. He can be used as a rotation option to Ben Chilwell as a left wing-back but Tuchel could also opt to deploy Cucurella as Antonio Rudiger’s replacement and play him on the left of a back three.
