Transfer News: Chelsea set to bid for Torino defender Gleison Bremer amidst Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur interest
According to Italian outlet La Stampa via Milan News (h/t Football.London), Chelsea are preparing their first official bid for the signing of Gleison Bremer.
Torino FC may have ended 10th in Serie A, but they had the best defensive record outside of the top four teams when it comes to goals conceded. Gleison Bremer’s performance was a significant reason for that, and the 25-year-old Brazilian-born defender was named Serie A Defender of the Year for his efforts.
That’s gotten him a lot of interest in the transfer market, with sources suggesting interest from London’s three top teams- Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
Chelsea and Tottenham are ready to start a bidding battle for his signature, with a fee of around €40million thought to be enough to seal the deal. These days, fans would argue that it is a realistic fee for outstanding talent.
With Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen both on their way out this summer, Thomas Tuchel’s team has already lost two defenders in their backline.
Cesar Azpilicueta, who spent eleven years at Chelsea and became one of their most successful players, has also been linked with a move to the Nou Camp. Thiago Silva, meanwhile, doesn’t seem to be getting any younger while Trevoh Chalobah still has just one full top-flight season under his belt.
With a Premier League championship fight on the horizon, the Blues would be wise to go to the market to revamp their backline for the next season.
The Brazilian defender has never played in the Premier League, which may be his sole drawback. However, he doesn’t have a lot left to prove. Playing for a team such as Torino, Bremer’s individual performances this season in Italy’s top-flight show that he has what it takes to succeed at the biggest of stages.
