According to Italian outlet Corriere Dello Sport (h/t Football.London), Chelsea have an advantage over the other teams in the transfer race for Juventus star Adrien Rabiot.
The Frenchman has enjoyed an optimistic spell in the second half of the season at the Allianz Stadium and has been a regular in the first XI under Massimiliano Allegri. The 27-year-old has completed 45 appearances across all competitions and has predominantly been deployed in the centre and left of midfield.
Chelsea have been linked with a transfer move for Rabiot whose contract is set to end in 2023. Considering the Blues’ crucial midfielders N’Golo Kanté and Jorginho are ageing, they will need to bring in replacements sooner or later.
Even though Newcastle United are also in the race, Chelsea are believed to be leading the transfer pursuit. To add to our dismay, the French midfielder’s agent hasn’t ruled out the possibility of a Paris Saint-Germain return for his client either.
Rabiot might cost around €15 million (£12.8m) which reflects that finances might not be an issue for any concerned party if they are serious about landing him. While he might not be the best player out there, Chelsea could land themselves a top player for cheap.
Thomas Tuchel has remained heavily reliant on the services of N’Golo Kanté and Jorginho for the last two seasons. However, as the players are ageing, the hectic schedule could have an adverse effect on their consistency.
Both the midfield stars have suffered injury concerns in the recent term, whereas Kante was seen tired in the second half of the season after a gruelling campaign. Considering such displays, the manager might be taking a big risk if he overuses the duo in the coming season.
Tuchel has worked with Rabiot while at PSG and it remains to be seen if a reunion is on the cards. An athletic presence in the middle of the park, Rabiot could prove to be a shrewd purchase.
A quality midfield backup might help the German manager distribute the workload properly. Considering Rabiot has been a regular performer for Juventus, he could be a quality addition to our roster.
As our team is currently leading the race for the French midfielder’s transfer pursuit, we might be able to secure his signature sooner or later. It remains to be seen when the Blues management registers their first genuine offer regarding the signature of the 27-year-old.
