According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano (h/t Football.London), Chelsea are still keen on a move for Bundesliga ace Christopher Nkunku as an alternative for Manchester City star Gabriel Jesus.
Chelsea have been linked with a move for the Brazilian striker for quite some time now but if a move does not materialize for Jesus, then Nkunku is set to become an option for the Blues. The French striker joined RB Leipzig from PSG in 2019 and has been one of the breakthrough stars this season.
The 24-year-old former PSG youth star has played 50 games for the Bundesliga club this season scoring 35 goals and providing 19 assists across all competitions. Such numbers are definitely not normal and shows that Nkunku is indeed a very special player.
Nkunku will undoubtedly attract interest from many clubs around Europe and if Chelsea fail to sign Jesus, the Blues could be tempted to move for the French star instead.
Although it is being claimed that Chelsea are keen on a move for Gabriel Jesus, if the Blues pursue a deal for Christopher Nkunku it seems to make more sense.
It is understandable as to why the Blues want Jesus. The Brazilian has Premier League experience and has shown in his many years at Man City that he has the quality to succeed at the top level. He seems to be the safer bet for Chelsea amongst the two players.
Nkunku has been arguably the biggest breakthrough star in Europe this campaign and the performances he has put in at the German club is unbelievable. If he continues on the same path and continues his development, the sky is the limit for the Frenchman.
The French starlet’s forward is extremely versatile. He can play as a striker, on either wing and even as an attacking midfielder. Being an equally capable creator as he is a goalscorer, Nkunku seems to offer more to the Blues than Jesus will.
It remains to be seen as to how Chelsea handle this situation and who they chose to sign but it just seems at the moment that Christopher Nkunku is a better option than Gabriel Jesus.
