Transfer News: Chelsea join bitter rivals in the race for 21-goal Dutch forward

Transfer News: Chelsea join Arsenal in race for signing PSV star Cody Gakpo

According to transfer news on CaughtOffside (h/t Football.London), Chelsea have joined Arsenal in the race for talented Dutch winger Cody Gakpo from PSG.

Gakpo has been one of the hottest prospects in European football this season and has been the subject of interest from the giants across the world. A product of the PSV youth academy, the starlet is equally good at scoring goals and providing assists.

The 23-year-old has played 47 matches for the Dutch club this season scoring 21 goals and providing 15 assists across all competitions. Gakpo has a contract with PSV till 2026 and the club will be in no rush to sell him and could hold out for a bigger fee.

Arsenal were said to be in a race to sign the PSV winger but it now seems as if Chelsea are also going to join the race for the talented forward player.

A player for the future?

Cody Gakpo, in his small sample size in the Eredivisie, has shown that he has the potential to become a huge player in European football.

Arsenal are keen on making a move for the talented winger but Chelsea are also in the race. Whilst reinforcing the forward line is not a priority for the Blues, a player of Gakpo’s talent doesn’t come around often and he could be a signing for the future.

Cody Gakpo has interest from Arsenal.

The numbers that the 23-year-old has produced in the Dutch top flight are not normal but it remains to be seen if he reproduces the same kind of numbers in England. The talented attacker is still young and needs to be given time to develop.

Training under a coach like Thomas Tuchel would be great for the youngster with the German manager known to get the best out of talented young players. With the correct attitude and proper development, Gakpo could be a huge player for the Blues.

Signing Gakpo should be done with a view into the future. He can also offer a lot in the present but he is a player that would future-proof our attack. Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi are, of course, still at the club, but it is never a bad idea to add a player like Gakpo if he is willing to make the switch.
