Transfer News: Barcelona are seriously interested in Chelsea target Jules Kounde
According to Barca Times (via Fabrizio Romano) (h/t Football.London), Barcelona are seriously interested in signing French centre-back Jules Kounde from Sevilla but Chelsea are said to be ahead in the race.
The former Bordeaux man joined the La Liga club in 2019 and has since then gone on to become one of the best defenders in La Liga. His performances have made the entire Europe take notice of him and many clubs are interested in signing the Frenchman.
The 23-year-old defender has played 44 games for the club scoring three goals and providing one assist across all competitions. The Frenchman has a contract with the Spanish club till 2024 and if the club wants to get the best value for the player, they must sell him now.
Chelsea have been interested in signing the player for a long time now since the previous summer to no avail. Now, it is being reported that Barcelona are showing serious interest in the player and could enter the race to sign him.
Twist in the tale?
Just when Chelsea thought the Jules Kounde saga was coming to an end and that they could sign him up, Barcelona’s entry will throw the cat among the pigeons.
Chelsea are desperate for centre-backs this summer after seeing a massive exodus in their defence this season. Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger are set to move on from the club this summer on free transfers and the future of Cesar Azpilicueta is far from certain.
Thiago Silva and Trevoh Chalobah will be the only options at the club this summer to play at centre-back and it is not enough going into next season. Thus, the Blues are desperate to sign central defenders in the summer to reinforce their squad.
Jules Kounde will be a perfect signing for Thomas Tuchel and at 23, he has his entire career in front of him. Also capable of playing at right-back, his versatility could come in handy for the Blues next season.
