AC Milan are interested in signing 29-year-old Chelsea winger

Transfer news: AC Milan are interested in Chelsea star Hakim Ziyech

Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed on his Twitter account that Hakim Ziyech can leave Chelsea this summer. AC Milan are interested in the player and talks are ongoing with the player’s camp.

Ziyech joined Chelsea from Ajax in 2020 for a deal worth £33.3 million. The Moroccan has struggled at Stamford Bridge in cementing his position in the first-team. He started just 14 games in the Premier League last season for the Blues and did not feature at all in the Champions League.

And now it seems his time at the Bridge could come to an end as he is keen on joining the Serie A side and make a place for himself in their starting XI.

The Rossoneri, having won the Scudetto last season, were interested in signing the former Ajax man for a long time, but it now seems that they may get their man. He would certainly add experience and quality to an excellent Milan side.

A sensible move?

Chelsea are undergoing a major squad overhaul under new ownership. Thomas Tuchel is personally leading the change, and Ziyech is not to be a part of the new squad.

Raheem Sterling of Manchester City and Ousmane Dembele of Barcelona are the wingers that Chelsea have shortlisted to replace the outgoing player. Ziyech had fallen down the pecking order, with Kai Havertz and Mason Mount being the preferred options over him.

He won’t be the only big name on the move from Chelsea, as AC Milan’s rival Inter Milan is closing on a deal for striker Romelu Lukaku. Chelsea are said to prefer a loan option for the player with an option to buy, rather than a permanent transfer this summer.

This would make sense as the player will get to regain his form and Chelsea can access other options. However, the 29-year-old’s salary could create some concerns. All the three parties would love to come to an acceptable solution regarding this problem.

It would be a good move for both the player and club as it is clear Ziyech would continue to be down the pecking order, should he stay. The player has the opportunity to showcase his talent someplace else while Chelsea would hope to sign a good replacement. Only time will tell if it will be a good decision or not.
