Timo Werner reveals his transfer stance amid Chelsea approach for De Ligt

According to Sky Italy (h/t Metro), Timo Werner is ready to accept a transfer move to Juventus if Chelsea decides to offer him in part exchange for Matthijs de Ligt.

The German international has been with the Blues since 2020, having joined from Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig. The forward, though, has had a difficult time in west London and hasn’t displayed the form or talent that convinced Chelsea to splash the cash on him.

Werner has only scored 23 goals in 89 appearances for Chelsea during the course of his first two seasons with the team. Despite the attacker playing 56 times in the league, just ten of the 23 came in the Premier League. Given that Thomas Tuchel needs to restructure his attacking unit, it has raised major doubts about his future at Stamford Bridge.

To manage the defensive dilemma at the club, Chelsea are currently concentrating on a potential transfer for De Ligt, who has informed Juventus that he wants to leave this summer after three years in Turin. The plot twist, though, is that Chelsea is prepared to include Wener in the exchange.

Even though it would seem feasible for Chelsea, the player might have different opinions regarding his transfer. But, fortunately, for the Blues, the player also feels the same way.

Even though The German forward would probably have to accept a pay cut if he moved to Turin, Werner is reportedly open to the transfer. After a rocky tenure at Stamford Bridge, he clearly feels open to the thought of a new challenge because he isn’t ruling out the possibility of taking a wage cut to join Juventus.

Timo Werner had a mixed debut season with Chelsea.

Chelsea’s forward lineup seems to be fragile, as demonstrated by recent injuries. The former Dortmund manager was forced to deploy Kai Havertz in a central position when Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner suffered losses, but even the German struggled to stay consistent for an extended period of time.

One may anticipate Chelsea to hunt for offensive reinforcements if Werner does decide to go as part of a deal for De Ligt. Owner Todd Boehly is willing to let Hakim Ziyech depart west London, while Romelu Lukaku is on the move with a possible loan return to former team Inter Milan.

A squad that wants to win major titles shouldn’t be in such a scenario. To handle the demanding schedule we have ahead of us, the squad desperately needs more depth. The transfer proceeds from Werner’s sale can be used by the blues board to bring in a number of workable options.
