According to Football.London, Mobile and Internet provider Three have resumed their partnership with Chelsea which they had suspended back in March following sanctions on former owner Roman Abramovich amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Three had previously hoped that Chelsea would remove their logo from shirts and around the stadium, in a move that turned out to be highly unpopular amongst the fans.
Signed on as the club’s main sponsor in January 2020, the Three logo has appeared on Chelsea’s shirt since the 20/21 campaign. Since the new sponsor’s arrival, the Blues have enjoyed a rather successful spell that has brought Champions League and Club World Cup glory.
Three also helped Chelsea turn Stamford Bridge into the Premier League’s first completely 5G-enabled stadium. The resumption of this partnership means that the three-year £40 million contract between the telecom company and Chelsea, which is due to expire next season, will now be fulfilled in its entirety.
Elaine Carey, CCO at Three UK said:
“We welcome this new chapter for Chelsea under its new ownership and are delighted to resume our work with the club, employees and fans. We look forward to the coming season with excitement.”
An unprecedented geopolitical scenario has put Chelsea through some of the most challenging times in the modern era, at least off the pitch.
On the pitch, it didn’t lead to trophies last season but thanks to Thomas Tuchel and the involved squad, Chelsea reached two cup finals and finished third in the Premier League, whilst also almost pulling off an impossible comeback against Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals.
It’s a true testament to Tuchel, his coaching staff and the entire squad that they haven’t let the noise off the pitch derail the club’s ambitions and expectations. Now under new ownership, the tides are starting to seem calmer. Three’s return is an indication of that, and slowly but steadily, normalcy will start to reflect across all areas.
Hopefully, the focus is entirely on Chelsea’s football rather than matters off the pitch in the coming campaign. Things look rosy after confirmation of our takeover and in Tuchel, we have a resilient leader who has what it takes to challenge the likes of Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola.
