Transfer News: Marcos Alonso is very close to joining Barcelona from Chelsea.

A lot of names are expected to arrive at Stamford Bridge this summer, while few are expected to make way. One such player who has been linked with an exit this window is Chelsea full-back Marcos Alonso, who is a transfer target for cash-strapped Barcelona.

Alonso is keen on making a switch to the Catalan giants, but their financial struggles mean that agreeing a fee with Chelsea will be a major roadblock.

With only one-year left on Alonso’s current deal, there has been hope that Barca will be able to sign him for a fee that is nominal but Chelsea are under no obligation to comply, and why should they?

According to Mundo Deportivo via Sport Witness (h/t football.london), Alonso’s agent Fali Ramadani is currently in London to discuss the possibility of a transfer for his client.

Barcelona also hold a long-standing interest in Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta, whose contract is also due to run out next year. Apparently, it’s him who is Barcelona’s priority over Alonso.

A recent report from Spanish outlet Sport (h/t football.london) suggested that Chelsea have set a €13 million price-tag for both Azpilicueta and Alonso – meaning a fee in the region of €26 million is what Barcelona will have to pay to land the duo.

It’s high time Barca stop playing the ‘financial trouble’ card

When two and two don’t add up together, something just doesn’t seem right. For a club that’s neck-deep in debt, Barcelona do seem to be spending substantially.

A bid for Robert Lewandowski is expected, which if accepted will be followed up by a staggering contract offer to one of the best strikers in the world, arguably maybe the best.

Barca also plan on attempting a move for Chelsea target Jules Kounde, as well as attempting to renew Ousmane Dembele’s contract which is not going to be ‘cheap’ by any means.

Surely Barcelona can pay €26 million for two Spain internationals? For one of the most accomplished captains of the modern era and the Premier League’s highest-scoring defender since 2016/17, that does sound like a pretty good deal – some may even call it a steal.

There’s no reason for Chelsea to soften their stance, so the equation is simple and straight-forward. Match the price, and a deal will be in place.
