Transfer News: Rivals clubs on alert as Chelsea yet to offer new contract to Reece James
According to Daily Mail, Chelsea are yet to offer a new contract to defensive ace Reece James and this has meant that rival clubs have been put on alert regarding the situation surrounding the right-back.
The Cobham graduate has been a part of Chelsea’s youth ranks since 2016 and has only kept growing from strength to strength. The talented defender broke into the Blues first team in 2019 under former boss Frank Lampard and has gone on to become one of the best right-backs in the Premier League.
The 22-year-old has had an exceptional season this time too despite suffering from a long-term injury in the middle of the campaign. The Englishman has played 39 times for the Blues this season scoring six goals and providing 10 assists across all competitions.
James has a contract with the Blues until 2025 so Chelsea do not have to worry yet as the situation is not that desperate. However, tying down the talented defensive starlet to a new long-term deal seems to be a wise choice for the Blues.
The present and future?
There is absolutely no doubting that Reece James has a huge future with the Blues, but he is also the present for Thomas Tuchel’s team.
Anyone who has followed Chelsea this season will know how much the team suffered in the absence of the Englishman when the right-back was injured for a significant period of time. He adds so much to Tuchel’s team and his value cannot be undermined.
Alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joao Cancelo, James can arguably be called the best right-back in the Premier League and all of them have many many years left ahead of them to continue competing to become the best in their position.
Marauding going forward and also equally adept defensively, James is everything that a coach can dream of from a modern full-back. His impeccable eye for scoring a goal is something that makes him unique from the others in that position.
